home

well...my bad for never updating this. so i ended up coming back to the states and staying! long story short, i was really homesick...and that whole english-teaching / mentoring gig had unexpected costs and arrangements for which i was unwilling to deplete my savings. that said, i'll admit: it was a difficult decision. in the end, i sat on a pillow and envisioned myself on the plane, flying to colombia in august, and -- despite the fact that i was in first class -- i was overcome with regret. it surprised me how easy the decision became after that...
so i've been back in detroit since late june, where i found a job within one month (volunteer network coordinator at for double up food bucks) and, thanks to zee fossett and alesyn mccall, plugged immediately into some dope artist networks.
this summer, i rode my bike, polished my nails, did yoga, connected with family and friends old and new, belle isle beached an afternoon, wrote poetry, watched tv, dance dance danced, went to the movies, got low-income families hella free produce, took jordan to the universoul circus, squeezed succulents at the conservatory, meditated at still point, got chose in my funky junk and juju gear, found new places in my old hometown, went to art prize, read long division, fell in bevlove, sported a frohawk, ate deep fried oreos at #bredxbrew, went roller skating, spoke english to native english speakers, spoke spanish to native spanish speakers!
this fall, i drank hot cider spiked with fireball, began violin lessons, shopped at eastern market, began a print model portfolio, watched a fashion show, supported small business, volunteered at the farmers market, had a picnic at palmer park, and went to see alice walker!
and the past couple months have been filled with buying black, making soup, parking practice (i got my Ls a couple weeks ago!), used car searching, family time, and a yoga teacher training full tuition scholarship!
now, as winter temperatures finally set in, 2015 has rolled around, and my personal new year is fast approaching (i'll be 28 on january 24th!), it's never been more clear to me how incredibly fortunate i am to have actually pried open this oyster i call world. 2014 will go down in erin-history as one of the greats, and i have so many people to thank! if you have not already received a personal "thank you" gesture from me, please know that doesn't mean i forgot you; i just...well i probably forgot you. so let this post serve as my proof of gratitude for your addition to my 2014.
thanks for reading, and happy new year!
